Mini Canteen: Buying my snack

florastophasma

In Maths, Flora is currently learning how to manage money in a way more relatable to her , by buying her snack. We have chosen some of her favourite, healthy snacks, made a visual price list and given her a specific amount of money, e.g. €1.

For more information about Autism and learning how to manage money during snack time, see here

I need:

  • Price list

  • snacks, coins

What do I want to buy?

An orange

How much does it cost? 20 cents

I calculate and give the requested amount of money

I buy the orange

Sometimes Flora is using a calculator.

This activity can be adapted to the mathematical level of each child. The Mini Canteen can be implemented in the students' daily routine and can also be turned into a group activity where students become the cashier and the customers.

We will share more tips and activities in the future, so keep visiting us.
